Since Coconut's closed I have been looking for great fish tacos in Kapaa. I think I have found it at Sleeping Giant Grill! I love brining my own beverage sitting outside on the picnic table. So this little place is a walk up with a versatile menu and friendly order takers to help you decide. Just what I was looking for....no stuffy restaurant. Just easy!
Stopped here after a very long travel day as it came recommended to us by a friend. My husband got the ahi fish tacos and my son got the ono fish tacos. They inhaled them! My other son got the chicken tacos and I went with the Tempe wrap. It was AMAZING. Little seating outside but we snagged a picnic table and enjoyed the ambiance. The girl behind the counter was extremely helpful and kind. I plan on making another stop while we're here.
Delicious food and gluten free options on the menu! The chef was lovely and came out to see how we liked our meal. Everyone in our party was very happy! We ordered: Korean bbq chicken plate, teriyaki chicken plate, chicken burrito, and the tempeh plate. We ate at the outdoor seating out front and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.
OMG best thing I've eaten on this island all week! That homemade sesame island dressing is to die for. I literally put it on everything. We got the grilled shrimp plate, ahi burrito, and fish tacos. The fish tacos were by far our favorite food here with the amazing garlic cilantro crème on it. Would recommend to everyone and would only eat here if I could! 10/10!!!
Small little spot, not a lot of seating outside but they have indoor seating. Had the grilled ono fish tacos - amazing! Only complaints are I wish the tortilla was cooked more (it was a flimsy flour tortilla) and a little smaller because it almost turned my taco into a burrito. Being from California I was a little weary having shredded cheese on the taco but it wasn't an awful addition would probably recommend it without the cheese next time though. Super friendly kind staff, greeted us with smiles. Definitely one of the top places to eat on Kauai.
A really good spot that I would strongly recommend if you are craving some great fish tacos. It is a small place with a few tables and a couple outdoor seats as well. One person was taking orders and I think there were at least two people in the kitchen. They have both Ono and Ahi and I got the Ono fish tacos and it was really cool that I was able to get one grilled and one fried as they had different flavor profiles and I enjoyed them both quite a bit. My fiance got the Ahi and that was also a really different flavor profile as she got it rare and it was also really good. They have other things on the menu as well that also looked really good and one thing we decided to get was the Lilikoi cheesecake. It was a much more mild flavor as usually that type of cheesecake has a sweet lilikoi sauce on it when we have ordered it elsewhere but this one just looked like plain cheesecake. It was delicious and nice finishing note.
Food was delicious I got the ono burrito and it was amazing and so much food. We also got a kids chicken and rice and my daughter loved it (and she is super picky)! We got the shrimp special also and it was good too especially the Mac salad!
They offered to find me an unmarinated ahi for a taco so that I could have a gluten free meal and I'm so glad they did because the fish was incredible. I didn't care for the taco shell around it (I never really do) but the ingredients inside were such a good mixture of fresh, mildly spicy, and just melt-in-your -mouth fish. Super large portion and very filling. The fish was lightly seared and honestly was like butter.
fantastic little spot near the coconut marketplace (kind of in the back of the marketplace / in front of the Aston islander hotel) def recommend this spot for some good grilled healthy options that hit the spot. We tried the grilled ono & the chicken teriyaki and both were so good. If you're staying at the hotels near Aston this place is worth stopping by for a dinner or 2. There is some seating inside and outside but not too many. I prefer to take my food to go and eat in my hotel or at the beach anyways - which isn't too far walk away. They accept credit card & have drink cans for purchase. Def worth it to stop by here if you are around for a delicious dinner or meal in Kauai.
We have eaten here both times we went to Kauai. A little, strip mall, quaint Cafe. Food is tasty, fresh & healthy. We leave full & feeling like we ate a healthy meal.
